Tens of thousands of people in Basel — Swiss and newcomers, researchers, visitors and students — read, work and live in English every day, yet rarely share a table across those lines. Each month, a Book Club Basel evening brings them together around one English-language book, discussed in the open, for free.
Book Club Basel is a project of Book Club Switzerland, a nonprofit association founded in Basel in October 2025. The public monthly series begins in January 2027 — the evening below is a special early event ahead of that launch.

Helen Macdonald, author of H is for Hawk — winner of the Samuel Johnson Prize and the Costa Book of the Year, now a feature film starring Claire Foy — joins us to talk about grief, wildness, and training a goshawk named Mabel.
